Reabilitação e ampliação da adega cooperativa de Portimão : um centro cultural, galeria de arte e residência de artistas

Abstract

A preservação de edifícios modernos é um tema bastante abordado nos dias de hoje. O modo como devemos intervir, para que se possam preservar os edifícios que são caracterizados como manifestos construtivos, ou monumentos culturais, são alvo de principal discussão. É na necessidade de perceber a relevância destes edifícios, para que se possa elaborar uma proposta de intervenção dos mesmos, que surge a presente dissertação. O documento divide-se em duas partes, sendo a primeira definida por um estudo teórico, abordando temas que são considerados importantes quando associado a edifícios industriais. E a segunda, definida pela proposta de intervenção. Numa primeira abordagem, são feitas referências aos pioneiros na produção arquitetónica no Algarve durante o Movimento Moderno, apresentando ainda, algumas noções referentes à salvaguarda de edifícios. Em seguida, apresenta-se mais sucintamente, o conceito de Património Industrial a nível internacional e nacional. Posteriormente, desenvolve-se o estudo da evolução tipológica e formal dos edifícios industriais, e da sua importância no início do Movimento Moderno, onde se aprofunda o caso português, em função dos acontecimentos significantes a nível socio-cultural, salientado, ainda, alguns dos edifícios industriais a nível nacional, concebidos durante esse período. De seguida, aborda-se o modo de implantação dos edifícios industriais e o seu impacto na malha urbana após o seu abandono, de forma a salientar a importância da sua regeneração. O último ponto desta parte, dedicado aos estudos de casos, analisa as seguintes obras: Museu do Oriente, ÚNICA - Adega Cooperativa do Algarve, Tate Modern, Caixa Forum, Edifício de Exposições Thompson e Sauna Grotto. A segunda parte da dissertação é dedicada ao projeto. Deste modo, foram compostos assuntos, relacionados principalmente com a reabilitação de edifícios industriais modernos, que serviram de base para a segunda parte da dissertação, onde se propõe uma intervenção num edifício industrial e se realiza um estudo da maleabilidade da madeira. É realizada a reabilitação da Adega Cooperativa de Portimão, alterando-lhe o uso para um Centro Cultural, composto por uma Galeria de Arte e uma Residência de Artistas, de carácter temporário. Este novo uso foi escolhido de forma a manter a vida no edifício, proporcionando uma grande diversidade cultural.

The preservation of modern buildings is a subject much addressed today. The way we should intervene, so that buildings that are characterized as constructive manifestoes, or cultural monuments can be preserved, are the main subject of discussion. It is necessary to perceive the relevance of these buildings, so that a proposal for their intervention can be elaborated, is in this context that the present dissertation appears. This document is divided into two parts, the first one defined by a theoretical study, addressing topics that are considered important when associated with industrial buildings. And the second, defined by the intervention proposal. In a first approach, references are made to the pioneers in the architectural production in the Algarve during the Modern Movement, also presenting, some notions referring to the safeguarding of buildings. A concept of Industrial Heritage at the international and national levels is briefly presented. Subsequently, is developed the study of the formal and typological evolution of industrial buildings and its importance at the beginning of the Modern Movement, where the Portuguese case is deepened, in view of the significant socio-cultural events, as well, as some of the industrial buildings at national level, designed during this period. Next, the way of implantation of the industrial buildings and their impact on the urban network after its abandonment is discussed, in order to emphasize the importance of its regeneration. The last point of this part, dedicated to the case studies, analyzes the following constructions: Oriente Museum, ÚNICA - Cooperative Winery of Algarve, Tate Modern, Caixa Forum, Thompson Exhibition Building and Sauna Grotto. The second part of the dissertation is dedicated to the project. In this way, subjects related mainly to the rehabilitation of modern industrial buildings were used, which served as the basis for the second part of the dissertation, where it proposes an intervention in an industrial building and a study of the malleability of the wood is made. A requalification of the Cooperative Winery of Portimão is carried out, altering its use to a Cultural Center, composed of an Art Gallery and a Residence of Artists, of temporary character. This new use was chosen in order to keep the life in the building, providing a great cultural diversity.
