Entre a cidade e a ruína C.A.D.A. Colégio de Arquitetura e Design do Algarve : proposta de reabilitação de um quarteirão em Lagos

Abstract

Esta dissertação considerou dois edifícios devolutos que formavam um dos quarteirões da cidade Lagos, a Adega Cooperativa e a Estalagem/Hotel S. Cristóvão do Arquitecto modernista António Vicente de Castro. O inicial desenvolvimento do presente trabalho de dissertação, o tema e o projeto proposto teve em conta o estado devoluto do quarteirão, atualmente destituído de qualquer um dos edifícios em estudo aqui apresentados, após a sua demolição no presente ano, para dar lugar a um novo complexo de edifícios destinados à habitação mas na sua maior parte para turismo. Verifica-se como consequência natural o desaparecimento do edificado referido e apresenta-se uma proposta, agora utópica, para o lugar. Divide-se em dois volumes, teórico e de projeto. O primeiro volume, a parte teórica, reflete sobre o património urbano da cidade através do estudo deste quarteirão como exemplo, a contribuição do edificado pré-existente e importância para o desenho urbano no passado que gerou o desenho urbano do presente desta parte do território da cidade de Lagos, a demolição do edificado e o consequente desaparecimento. Sendo as suas principais características apontadas a localização e a importância dos edifícios deste quarteirão e o seu contributo no século anterior para o desenho da cidade de Lagos tal como nos chegou aos dias de hoje, propõe-se restituir ambos os edifícios em foco à sua traça original e trabalhar o espaço envolvente e o novo edificado de modo a devolver a sua outrora importância e vida, através da reconversão dos seus usos originais adaptando-os ao programa proposto. O segundo volume, o projeto, propõe o reaproveitamento dos edifícios da Estalagem S. Cristóvão e dos dois pavilhões principais da Adega Cooperativa de Lagos, adicionando ou subtraindo elementos que representariam no seu conjunto o Campus do Colégio de Arquitetura e Design do Algarve. O projeto seguiu um longo curso de idealização pensado como uma só unidade, reabilitando não só o espaço edificado e o espaço urbano que se encontrava ao abandono, consolidando urbanisticamente o início da avenida dos Descobrimentos, dos espaços envolventes e de um uso diferente virado mais para a valorização do estudo e investigação no campo da Arquitectura e Design versus o uso para fins turísticos.

This dissertation considered two vacant buildings that formed one of the Lagos city blocks, the building of the Cooperative Adega and the Saint Cristopher Inn/Hotel design by the modernist Architect António Vicente de Castro. The initial development of this dissertation work, the theme and the proposed project took into account the state of the block, currently stripped of any of the buildings under study here presented, after its demolition in the current year to give way to a new to be edified complex of buildings for housing and in its majority to tourism. The natural consequence was the disappearance of the mentioned building and a proposal, now utopian, is presented to the block. It is divided into two volumes, theoretical and project. The first volume, the theoretical part, reflects on the city's urban heritage through the use of this block as an example, the contribution of the pre existing buildings, its contribution and importance to the urban design in the past that generated the urban design of this part of the city's territory, the demolition of the buildings and the its consequent disappearance. The main characteristics pointed out are the location and the importance of the buildings in this city block and the contribution in the previous century for the design of the city of Lagos providing us the present trace, it is proposed the restoration of both buildings studied to its most original form, but replacing the way for what is used, work the surrounding space and the new additions in order to restore its former importance and life, through the reconversion of its original uses adapting them to the proposed program. The second volume, the project, proposes the reuse and restoration of those buildings, adding or subtracting elements that would represent at the fullest the College Campus of Architecture and Design of the Algarve. The project followed a long course of idealization thought as a single unit, rehabilitating not only the built space and the urban space that was abandoned, consolidating urbanistically the beginning of the avenue of the Discoveries, the surrounding spaces and a different use turned more towards the valorization of study and research in the field of Architecture versus the use for tourism purposes.
