O projecto comunitário como resposta ao isolamento social e à sazonalidade : redefinição de uma nova centralidade na vila piscatória de Alvor

Abstract

O isolamento social é uma realidade cada vez mais presente em Portugal. O número de idosos são duas vezes mais que as crianças e os jovens. De momento é o país da união europeia a envelhecer com maior progressão. Com a baixa taxa de natalidade e o aumento da esperança média de vida, atualmente 23% da população portuguesa é idosa, com idades superiores a 65 anos (dados PORDATA, referente ao índice de envelhecimento nos últimos 30 anos). Existem disciplinas que se concentram no envelhecimento da população e nas questões sociais que afetam a população sénior, procurando entender e melhorar a qualidade de vida dos idosos. Estas envolvem diversas áreas profissionais, com o objetivo de garantir que o envelhecimento seja de forma digna, cuidada, saudável e inclusiva (Gerontologia Social) *. A Arquitetura poderá ser usada como uma ferramenta de apoio a esta temática. A população local mais jovem tem cada vez mais recorrido à emigração como forma de procurar melhores condições de vida e oportunidade de emprego. O aumento do isolamento social cresce em simultâneo com a sazonalidade e a emigração da população mais jovem. A falta de oportunidade de emprego, e uma forte especulação imobiliária, forçam os jovens locais a procurar trabalho e casa em outros países. Com a construção deste espaço comunitário, prevê-se valorizar um vazio urbano em Alvor, como forma de combater a sazonalidade, o isolamento social da população idosa local, gerar emprego, promover o bem-estar e condições que possibilitem um estilo de vida mais ativo e dinâmico, procurando-se através da arquitetura soluções que respondam a estas problemáticas.

The social isolation is an increasingly present reality in Portugal. The number of elderly people is twice as high as children and young people. Now it is the country in the European Union that is ageing most rapidly. With the low birth rate and the increase of the average life expectancy, currently 23% of the Portuguese population is elderly, aged over 65 years (PORDATA data, referring to the ageing index in the last 30 years). There are disciplines that focus on the ageing population and social issues that affect the senior population, seeking to understand and improve the quality of life of the elderly. These involve several professional areas, with the aim of ensuring that ageing is dignified, cared for, healthy and inclusive (Social Gerontology) *. Architecture can be used as a tool to support this theme. The younger local population has increasingly resorted to emigration as a way of seeking employment opportunities and so better living conditions. The increase in social isolation grows simultaneously with seasonality and the emigration of the younger population. Combined with the lack of job opportunities and strong real estate speculation, this forces young locals to look for jobs and a home in other countries. With the construction of this community space, it is expected to enhance an urban void in Alvor, to reduce the seasonality time, social isolation of the local elderly population, generate employment, promote well-being and conditions that enable a more active and dynamic lifestyle, finding answers to these problems through the discipline of architecture.
