Convento de São Francisco: reconversão para preservação

Abstract

Este trabalho, desenvolvido no âmbito do curso de Mestrado Integrado em Arquitectura, visa a problemática da reabilitação e da reconversão de usos como veículo de preservação e conhecimento do património arquitectónico e imagem das nossas cidades. A integração destes imóveis nas cidades através da reconversão de usos, permite a integração dos velhos espaços nas vivências diárias das populações em alternativa às intervenções mais comuns que, embora garantam a preservação dos imóveis, são restritivas e apenas em proveito de alguns. Para a materialização do tema é apresentado um projecto de arquitectura visando a transformação de um dos edifícios mais emblemáticos da cidade de Portimão, em espaço de comércio tradicional, procurando explorar uma possível utilização destes edifícios classificados onde se propõe uma utilização mais abrangente que introduza o edifício na vida activa da cidade, através da sua reconversão e ampliação para um mercado municipal. Na abordagem a este trabalho é tida em consideração a origem e a função inicial do edifício que obedecia a regras construtivas bem definidas e representativas da comunidade Franciscana que fundou o Convento de São Francisco em Portimão.

This work, developed within the course of Master in Architecture, seeks the issue of rehabilitation and re-conversion of uses as a vehicle for knowledge and preservation of the architectural heritage and image of our cities. The integration of these properties in cities by the reconversion of uses allows the integration of old spaces in the experiences of everyday people as an alternative to the more common interventions that, while ensuring the preservation of buildings, are restrictive and only for the benefit of a few. To materialize the theme it is presented an architectural project aiming at the transformation of one of the most emblematic buildings of the city of Portimão, in the traditional commerce area, seeking to explore the possible use of these listed buildings where it is proposed a broader use to enter the building at the working life of the city, through its redevelopment and expansion for a municipal market. In the approach to this work, it is taken into consideration the origin and function of the original building that obeyed the well defined constructive rules which are representative of the Franciscan Community who founded the São Francisco Convent in Portimão.
