Reabilitação e construção de edifícios de taipa e pedra em espaço rural, na região do Algarve : sistemas construtivos de taipa e pedra

Abstract

O trabalho a desenvolver tem como principal eixo problemático a reabilitação e a construção de edifícios construídos em taipa e pedra no espaço rural do Algarve. Nem sempre o resultado das intervenções de reabilitação e de construção, condiz com o que foi proposto, idealizado ou com os valores a preservar. As debilidades metodológicas e processuais inerentes, podem colocar em causa a eficácia dos investimentos nesta área. Pretende-se contribuir para uma melhor caracterização do processo de construção e de reabilitação deste tipo de edifícios, cujo estado de conservação é na generalidade preocupante. Estas técnicas de construção são talvez as mais disseminadas, caracterizadoras da arquitectura vernacular. A dissertação estrutura-se em quatro capítulos: No primeiro, antecedido de uma introdução, enquadramento do tema, objectivos, metodologia e estrutura, aborda-se o enquadramento histórico da utilização da terra e da pedra, enquanto materiais de construção, no contexto da evolução do homem. No segundo, efectua-se o estudo da arquitectura popular na região do Algarve. O terceiro, destina-se ao estado da arte, onde se efectua um enquadramento, abordam-se, o conceito de reabilitação, a problemática da taipa e da pedra na construção contemporânea e dos novos materiais, as razões e as consequências decorrentes das soluções que se preconizam. O quarto e último capítulo culmina com as conclusões que se refletem na concretização do projecto arquitetónico abordando-se uma intervenção em projecto de reabilitação de num conjunto de edifícios de caracter habitacional e agrícola, alterando-se o seu uso para um empreendimento de turismo no espaço rural, antecedido do estudo do lugar que contempla o enquadramento paisagístico, morfológico e estudo do edificado existente e suas circunstâncias.

The main axis in witch this research has been developed has to do with the problems involved with the rehabilitation of traditional rural buildings, in the region of Algarve and Alentejo west coast, mainly those that used pug and stone constructional methods. In many cases the outcome of the rehabilitation and construction interventions don`t match with what was initially proposed, and idealized, or with the values of preservation. The deficient methodologies and procedures used may jeopardize the effectiveness of investments and affect the character of this region. It is intended to contribute to a better characterization of the process of construction and rehabilitation of traditional vernacular buildings that generally are in poor condition. These construction techniques are perhaps the most important elements that characterize the vernacular architecture of this region. This dissertation is divided into four chapters: The first chapter, preceded by an introduction which frames the subject, it`s goals, methodologies and structure, develops the historical context in the use of earth and stone as building materials, within the “world” of man and its evolution. The second chapter deals with the study of popular architecture in the Algarve region. The third chapter overviews the state of the art, involved by an analytical performance framework, in order to defined a concept of rehabilitation. It looks at the problems of pug and stone construction in contemporary architecture and of its interaction with new materials and the reasons and consequences arising from new solutions which are envisaged. The fourth and final chapter culminates with the conclusions that are reflected by the implementation of an architectural project, addressing an intervention for a rehabilitation of a cluster of rural vernacular buildings, proposing it`s reconversion in to a touristic development in rural areas, including a previous study of the place, the involving landscape, the morphology of the site and the survey of the existing buildings and their characteristics.
